Frequently Asked Questions

A home euthanasia is designed to be calm, gentle, and completely centred around your pet’s comfort. We begin by giving a relaxing sedation so your pet can fall into a deep, peaceful sleep, free from stress or discomfort. Once they are fully settled, we place a small intravenous catheter and administer the final medication, allowing them to pass quietly and painlessly.
There is no rush at any stage. You are given as much time as you need to say goodbye, both before and after, in the comfort of your home.
In some situations, particularly when pets are very weak or their circulation is poor, we may adjust the process to ensure it remains as smooth and stress-free as possible. Any changes will always be discussed with you gently and in advance, so you feel informed and supported throughout.

This is one of the most difficult questions a pet owner can face, and there is rarely a single “right” moment. It’s often about recognising when your pet is having more hard days than good ones, and when their comfort and enjoyment of life are beginning to fade.
You may start to notice subtle changes—less interest in things they once loved, increased fatigue, discomfort, changes in breathing, appetite, or mobility. These shifts can happen gradually, making them hard to see day-to-day.
Many families worry about acting too soon, but in our experience, it is far more common to wish they hadn’t waited so long. Choosing a peaceful goodbye on a “good day,” while your pet still feels like themselves, can be one of the most compassionate decisions you make.
If you’re unsure, you don’t have to navigate this alone—we’re here to guide you.
-
After your pet has passed, you have a few options depending on what feels right for you and your family. You may choose to keep your pet at home for burial (where permitted), or we can gently take them into our care on your behalf.
If cremation is chosen, we work with trusted partners who will treat your pet with the same dignity and respect. You can choose a private cremation with ashes returned to you, or a companion cremation.
There is no need to decide everything immediately. We’ll guide you through the options and give you the time and space to choose what feels most meaningful for honouring your pet.
-
Appointments are typically around an hour, but we always allow extra time so that everything can unfold gently and without pressure.
Some families need more time, others less—there is no expectation or rush. This is your time with your pet, and we follow your lead.
-
A phone consultation is a supportive conversation designed to help you better understand your pet’s current condition and what lies ahead.
We’ll talk through your pet’s history, the changes you’re noticing, and help you assess their quality of life. From there, we can guide you on next steps—whether that’s continuing care, making adjustments at home, seeking in-person treatment, or beginning to consider a peaceful goodbye.
These consults often help answer questions like:
• Is my pet comfortable?
• What changes should I be watching for?
• When might it be time to consider euthanasia?
• Are there ways I can support them at home right now? While we can’t diagnose or treat without a physical examination, our goal is to give you clarity, reassurance, and guidance—so you can make decisions with confidence and compassion.
Phone consult $50
In-home veterinary visit $150 -
This is a very personal decision, and there is no right or wrong choice—only what feels most appropriate for your family and your pet.
For children, being present can help them understand and process the loss in a gentle, honest way, especially when it’s explained in an age-appropriate manner. Some families find comfort in allowing children to say goodbye, while others prefer to remember their pet as they were. Trust what feels right for your child and their ability to cope.
Other pets can also benefit from being present or having the opportunity to see or smell their companion afterwards. This can help them understand the loss and may reduce confusion or searching behaviours in the days that follow.
We’re here to support whatever you choose, and can help guide you on how to create a calm, peaceful environment for everyone involved.
